Today we are looking at a game based on war, but this one is a little different from the countless number of first person shooters that we have. This is a turn based strategy game. But it tries its very best to be just as exciting as all those war first person shooters that are on the iOS right now.
It is quite hard to really describe the way that RAD Soldiers looks. You see if you were to ask someone if it is a good looking game after they have just played one level then I am sure they would tell you that it looks fantastic. Which in a way it does everything is nicely detailed and very smooth. There really is nothing to complain about. Well except for the level designs. While there on paper is a decent selection of different levels for you to battle on they all kind of have this bland and lifeless look to them. I am not saying it is horrible looking at all, but its not the most exciting level design I have seen that is for sure.
The game play in RAD Soldiers is very fun. It manages to blend that fine line of being easy to play, but hard to master. The idea of the game is that you are in charge of a group of soldiers and you need to defeat the enemy. Each level is split up into for lack of a better term a grid. You can position your soldiers on various points on the grid before the battle starts. The closer you are the more damage you will do, but at the same time the more damage you will take.
There is a great deal of strategy involved as each solider has a energy meter. This will deplete when you do things like try and kill your enemy or duck for cover. So sometimes you need to make tough decisions like do I use my last bit of energy to take cover or do I take the chance and go for the kill, but if they try and shoot me first my soldier could be done for. There are a ton of little scenarios like this that really will make you scratch your brain trying to figure out the best strategy.
In single player you will need to do various missions. There is a good amount, but at the end of the day the idea behind 99.99 percent of them is to kill the enemy. After a while as well unless you are willing to spend some real money the default weapons will only get you so far against the AI.
In multiplayer you can either play against your buddies or random people from across the globe. I have mixed feelings on the multi player. They had the great idea that the multi player element would be played where you would take your turn and then just wait for the other person. Think of the game Draw Something where you could draw a picture then wait three days for the person to respond. Well that is what can happen here. On one hand it is a great idea, but on the other hand by the time your opponent responds you may have forgotten your strategy.
RAD Soldiers is a really fun game especially in its free mode. I am not sure that I would spend any real money on it to be honest, but there are more than enough people playing with the free weapons that you can at least have some fun and even multi player games.
