Megapolis is the latest town building game from Social Quantum. Actually scrap that because this is more like you are building a city than some small town. Despite not really offering anything new to the genre this still does what it does very well. But is it worth downloading for people who have played many of these games before? Well read on my fellow gamers to find out more.
Looks wise Megapolis looks like many other building style games out there. But I really like the way this game looks. And the reason for this is because of the architecture of the various buildings that are on offer. While you have all your standard houses, stadiums and other things you city will need. They all have this unique style to Megapolis that sets it apart from the other games. It is really hard to explain and it is one of those things that you just have to see for your self to appreciate it.
The idea of the game is to build a fully functioning city. I am sure this is something many of us have done in iOS games before. You will need to build homes, transportation places like airports, power stations and so on. One thing that I did like was how you needed to make sure that your properties water and power needs are taken care of. To do this you need to make sure that your power stations are putting out more than enough power. I thought this was a really cool little game play mechanic that was added.
I had more fun making my town look nice and have cool entertainment features than keeping things running. There are some really funky looking sculptures that you can buy to make your city your own. I found Megapolis a very easy to play in this regard. And I could have easily spent a few hours making my city, and that brings me to my big problem with the game.
Missions, daily tasks and other events. Now this may sound crazy that I am complaining about this and I am sure that many other people love these parts of the game. But for me it took me away from building my city and these parts of the game are mandatory. I get why they are in the game they are there to mix things up and make the game more interesting, but I found it frustrating when I would have to do a task rather than find a place for a cool looking stadium. I guess in a way this says a lot for how much fun it is to build a city in Megapolis. I am not saying that these missions and other things you have to do ruin the game. And I am sure for others these would be a lot of fun.
In all this is a fun game and if you are into these types of games then I am sure you will be hooked. But for me personally I need a town, city building game to really offer me something radically new and sadly for me Megapolis is not that game.
