American Idol Official is a free ios app. This app is a one-stop shop for information about American Idol. You can link your social media to it to get the more information from the app and to inreract with the conversations going on in social media. The main screen gives you a live countdown till the next new episode. The interface is interesting; the main screen gives you tiles of tweets and videos. If you click on the menu button in the top left you gain access to the following categories Idol nation, News, Videos, Photos, Contestants, Judges, Favorites, About the Show, and Recap.
In the idol nation section you can send facebook statuses or tweets. You can also read what other people are writing as well. In the news section you can filter by judges and categories. This is great if you’re a fan of Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, or any of the other judges. Would be nice if they also had a section to filter by contestants and previous winners. The Video section gives you access to the featured videos and clips from the current season. The photo section has the same filtering method as the news section. The contestant section allows you to find out where they are from, how old they are and view their photos. The judge’s section gives you a group shot. Speech bubbles appear above the judge’s heads with their recent tweets.
Although I’m not an American Idol fan I really like this app. More shows should make the effort to interact with their fans like this. Being able to follow the hosts, contestants and read all the latest news on American Idol is a great idea. Hopefully in the future they will add the ability to vote from the app and/or get feedback from the fans of the show to make it better.
