If your iPod is locked or disabled because you can’t remember the password, you can reset it a couple of different ways depending on your available resources. Unfortunately though, all of these methods require restoring your device. However, if you have done a backup, then you can re-sync that information back in later so you don’t have to worry about losing too much of your data.
If you have synced your iPod to iTunes you can connect it to your computer and open iTunes. Select the device in the iTunes navigation bar on the right hand side of the screen and select Back Up and then Restore. After your iPod is restored, you can install the most recent backup.
If you haven’t used iTunes to sync your iPod, you can still use it anyway. To do this, disconnect the cable from your iPod. Leave the other end of the cable plugged into the USB port on your computer and turn off your iPod. After the iPod is shut down, press and hold the Home button and plug the USB cable back into it while still holding the Home button down. A “Connect to iTunes” screen will appear on your iPod. When this shows up, release the Home button. iTunes will prompt you that your iPod is in recovery mode, click OK and then click on Restore.
