Angry Birds has to be one of the biggest success stories of the whole mobile gaming movement. Even my grandmother who struggles to use a regular telephone let alone a smart phone has heard of Angry Birds. You can’t walk through a mall anywhere in the world without seeing a whole bunch of merchandise. Well let me just start this review by saying that this installment to me is one of the best in the series.
The best thing about Angry Birds Season is the presentation of the game. The idea is that you play a series of levels that are all based around holidays. This game has been out for a couple of years now as I write this and it is still being updated. You have levels that are based on some of your favorite holidays such as Christmas, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and Halloween just to name a few of my favorites.
Rovio have gone all out in terms of the look of this game. Each season truly does feel unique. For example the Valentine’s Day levels will see the pig wearing bows and love hearts all over the levels. Whereas the Halloween one will be darker and have jack o lanterns. Each season really does look wonderful and because they are so different I think that this version of Angry Birds is one that will keep your attention perhaps more than the others.
One cool thing that this game has done is at Christmas time that it acts like an advent calendar. Where each day you open up the game you are greeted to a new level. I thought this was a really cool idea and it seems so did many other people as well. As I know a few people who were really into getting a brand new level each day.
Now in terms of the game play if you have played the original Angry Birds or even Angry Birds Rio, Space or the newer Angry Birds Star Wars then you will know what to expect here. The pigs have stolen the eggs from the birds and it’s up to you to help them destroy the pigs and get them back. In all honesty there has been nothing new added to the core game play here.
One thing though that Angry Birds Season has I do not know if I would say improved upon is the difficulty. The original Angry Birds game and the others as well all had that very easy you could do with your eyes closed level to start you off with. Angry Birds Season is by far the hardest game in the series. Do not get me wrong a kid could still pick this up and through trial and error beat the levels, but if you want to get that three star ranking then you are going to have to really work for it.
Overall this is a great addition to the Angry Birds series and while for me personally Angry Birds Star Wars is the best in the series. I think that Angry Birds Seasons is incredibly close. If for some reason you have not yet downloaded this then you really should.
