The original Gun Bros that was relapsed a couple of years back. Man was it really that long ago where the heck does the time go? Anyway back on track. I fell in love with the game because so far it has come the closest any game on the iOS has to matching one of my favourite childhood games Smash TV. So what have the Gun Bros been up to these last couple of years? Honestly as long as I get to shoot tons and tons of things then I really do not care.
Visually Gun Bros 2 is not one of the best looking shooters on the iOS. One game that I think it does in a way resemble is Loaded that was on the original Sony Playstation. Still it is far from a bowling shoe ugly game. I think the reason for the lack of polish may actually be on purpose because this is a game that is all about mayhem so really if you do take a moment to check out the games visuals chances are you are going to get blasted in the back. Again let me just say it is not a bad looking game at all, but the shooter genre on the iOS store these days is getting really advanced in terms of visuals.
Let me say right away Gun Bros 2 is not a game for every one I am sure for every person like myself who loved it there will be someone who hates it. The control scheme here I am sure to some will be very odd. Gun Bros 2 is what is known as a twin stick shooter. You have one control stick to move you character and rather than having a shoot button. You have a 8 way shooting stick. You you need to point the stick in the way you want to shoot. This is a control scheme that is not for everyone I understand that. And it can take a while for you to get the hang of, but once you do it really is fun and you will be running around taking people out from all kinds of crazy angles.
The levels are just pure mayhem and there is a ton of things like barrels for you to blow up. And of course there is a generous amount of cannon fodder enemies for you to blow away. Also the games bosses are just amazing some of them take up the better part of half the screen!
Now this is a game that really is made for multi player. The AI partner is actually not that bad, but after a while he is just so under powered against the tougher AI enemies. So you will need to make sure you have a buddy who has a decent arsenal.
There are a ton and I mean a ton of weapons for you. And if that was not enough you can modify your guns and give them second abilities. One thing that was added was different colour enemy shields. You can upgrade your weapon to get through a particular colour of enemy shield. This is an idea I have seen in similar games, but it took me a while to get the upgrade here so it was a little on the frustrating side.
As well as the great weapons there are also vehicles that you can jump into for a short amount of time. These are great fun to cause some havoc in for a little while. Also as well as all the weapons in the game you can get some great armour as well. Its a touch choice when you have some money to spend on if you should go for weapons or armour.
Sadly this game always has its hand out wanting you to spend money. You can grind and grind for hours to get some money through game play, but at the end of the day if you want to see some of the better stuff you are going to have to pay. This really killed the game for me because I loved everything else about it. This is one of those games I would happily paid $10-20 for to have everything in the game without micro transactions.
I think this is a game that is worth checking out, but be warned if you have never played a twin stick shooter before the control can take a little while to get used to.
